Kawasan Blok M, a bustling area in South Jakarta (Jaksel), took on a different appearance on the first day of Eid al-Fitr in 2025. What is usually a lively hub was surprisingly quiet and almost deserted.
Observations:
-
Uncharacteristic Quietness: The streets, such as Panglima Polim, which are typically congested with motor vehicles, were unusually clear. The usual symphony of honking horns was notably absent.
-
Deserted Blok M Square: Known for its culinary delights, Blok M Square wore a deserted look. Few food stalls were open, and even the usual street vendors were scarce.
-
A Pleasant Stroll: Despite the atypical emptiness, local resident Adhelia from Kemayoran, aged 27, enjoyed a leisurely walk in Blok M, seizing the holiday since she did not travel back to her hometown. She expressed surprise at the unusual quietness, mentioning her failed attempt to dine at a closed restaurant.
Adhelia embraced the rare tranquility of Blok M, relishing the freedom to explore without the usual crowds. She noted the opportunity for peaceful strolls and photo sessions at Taman Literasi, albeit with the downside of many eateries being closed for the day, set to reopen the following day.
